Kevin Drabinsky of Caltrans was on to tell us of several changes coming to Highway 9.
Jaime Smith said about the only thing that he can grow in the hottest part of summer is sweet potatoes, so he did. Then he made us hungry talking about many different types of flavored mashed potatoes.
Jeff Manke taught us that the largest flying birds are bustards. He talked penguins too. He did four separate Christmas counts of birds, and said numbers are down all over.

After the good news segment, which included a surprising story of a long lost letterman's jacket, and another surprising one about a rescue by a kite surfer, we were treated to a third, bonus good news story. That involved local firefighters doing a good deed while they are in southern California, helping fight the LA fires.
Rachael told us of a friend who had to evacuate because of those same fires, but took her sweet time doing it. We also established that she is not going to become a TV judge like Judge Judy.

Following a week in which Rosemary won the Battle of the Sexes by a 15-point margin, today's clean slate score in trivia was zero to zero. We are certainly starting from nothing.
Good news included birds that woo mates by bounding nine feet off the ground. It is work for the males and a show for the females.
Michael Olson's ag report included a look at what would happen if suddenly many of the people working in the fields were to disappear. It was not a pretty picture.

Rocky let us know the long streak of good surf continues.
Dr. Pete schooled us on ear hematomas in dogs, telling what they are, what causes them, what is the treatment and more. Mattress suture, anyone?
Alex and Rosemary reviewed current movies. Alex's pick of the week was Birdeater, or at least it would have been the pick of his seventeen-year-old self. Rosemary's pick was not Birdeater, but did involve birds. The title is Every Little Thing, and from the trailer looks like it might be a tear-jerker.

We think today was a first. Three of us hosted the show. Bill was back for the first time since missing three shows. Michael Olson was still here to back him up. Rosemary has been here all along.
Jacobi called in to tell us of his encounter with Doctor Who. Or was it Doctor Hu? Or was it space aliens? We were left wondering.
Gary Shapiro talked old movies with Mr. Olson. Who knew the best special effects are the ones you don't notice?
