Ep. 525 - GMMB Tuesday 11 Mar 2025

In good news we heard about a farm project for students. In the Live Oak school district an unused baseball field will become a farm, and the food grown there will be used in the school's kitchen to feed the students. It will be one of only four such programs in the country.

Rachel joined us for stories both funny and scary. Not the same story, but different ones, of one sort or the other.

Bill learned what a Dugger is. There are several. Rosemary knew all about them.

Assemblymember Gail Pelerin was with us. She let us know who she will be recognizing as local woman of the year. It is Terry Hernandez. She will also soon be recognizing mental health officials. Of course she also had more to say about future Battery Energy Storage Systems.

Michael Olson discussed the upcoming move of the downtown farmers' market, a pending bill to preserve agricultural land and a plan to have schools serving organic food.

Dr. Pete brought up the subject of people who leave their estate to their pets when they die. That does not really relate to severe bloat in cows, but somehow we made that transition.

In the good news we heard of the discovery of an ancient asteroid impact crater in Australia, and also about a Burger King crew who honored one of their regular customers at his funeral.

Charlie talked about sugar bushes and pincushion flowers and more.

Rosemary said she has an exciting secret to tell Monday.

Ep. 522 - GMMB Thursday 6 Mar 2025

Gary Shapiro kept his promise of yesterday, to tell us why the 1967 movie Dr. Dolittl was such a stinker.

Yeshe Jackson was also with us. He is currently working on his biggest mural ever, about 30 by 40 feet. It is on the outside wall of Jenna Sue's Cafe in downtown Boulder Creek. It will depict Albert the peacock, who wandered the area for many years.

We heard accordion music, but we probably don't want to emphasize that here.

Phil from Sarasota contributed to our trivia questions. The subject was candy bars.

Jaime Smith of My Food Smith was on. The topic was soups.

Gary Shapiro spoke of books written by Kevin Wade, Robin Green, Anthony Horowitz and others as well.

Consuela Alba let us know everything a body could want to about the Watsonville Film Festival.

Ep. 520 - GMMB Tuesday 4 Mar 2025

It's a small world. Today all the bumper music was from children's TV shows of the '60's, from Sid and Marty Kroft. Then when Rachael joined us in the third hour, she let us know that when she was in college, one of her college friends was in charge of Sid and Marty Kroft's production company. What a wonder.

John Laird was with us next. He of course had something to say about the future of battery energy storage systems in our area. He also said that during the recent fires down south, the feds turned the water off.

Kristin Brown of the Santa Cruz chamber of commerce joined us to discuss chamber business and her role on it.

Dawn Addis, representing California's 30th assembly district is going to be with us every other week on an ongoing basis. Today, as has been the case recently, the dominant topic was the recent fire at the BESS in Moss Landing, and protecting residents and the environment from future similar events.

Mark Mozina, as always, had a number of items for us.
